What the Hell Is… Big Walk?

Big Walk just sold over a million copies in its first week, which is insane for a game mostly about walking… and talking. So what the hell is it?

I’ve been playing Big Walk all week and after 14 hours, it’s still a little hard to explain. There’s no combat or enemies, you just go out into the wilderness and solve puzzles. Really clever puzzles, ok, but sometimes just communicating the solution is a puzzle unto itself. You have to have at least one partner, but there’s no split screen because being on separate screens is sort of the whole idea. The game uses proximity chat, so if you get separated you will find yourself very, very alone.

You can hold one item at a time, and even though you eventually get backpacks and belts, you still need a teammate to put stuff on and take stuff off, so you’re always relying on your partners for even the simplest tasks.

As you solve puzzles you complete towers and it looks like there’s a huge gate we’ll be able to open up at the end, but for now we’re just walkin’, talkin’, and as my 6-year old would put it: goin’ out on an adventure.

Big Walk is out now on PC, Mac,, PS5, and Switch 2. Separate devices are needed for each player, but it does have cross play. And even though I’ve been playing with my kid, this is the sort of game that could be fun with any age or skill level.
