Retrace the Light | Game Drop

Here’s the pitch: metroidvania bones, souls-like combat, and a rewind mechanic that lets you fight from your own past. Souls-likes usually aren’t my thing, but this thing was so beautiful, I had to give it a shot.

Retrace The Light just landed on PlayStation and every stage is dripping with style. You play as a memory-wiped agent, working for a super AI that’s trying to repair broken minds, one mirrormaze at a time.

The combat leans on this ability called retrace. You can snap back to a spot you were already in to flank an enemy, dodge an attack, or line up a hit from behind. So instead of memorizing parry timing, you’re thinking about positioning. It’s tricky at first, but that’s the whole reason I got into it, and it really uses a different part of my brain.

It’s been out on PC for almost a year now, sitting at a very positive rating on steam the whole time. So it’s got staying power and now it’s finally making the jump to PlayStation.

So I’m telling you, if souls-likes usually scare you off, this one is worth a shot. It’s out now on PlayStation, Steam, and Epic.
